Why Ramsey?

COMPANY HISTORY

373499b

Ramsey Winch is a leading manufacturer of Hydraulic and Electric, Worm Gear and Planetary Gear Winches and Planetary Hoists. Using advanced manufacturing processes, premium materials, highly trained engineers and production personnel, Ramsey Winch is today’s choice for quality, dependability, and endurance.

And it’s been that way since 1944, when brothers Claude and Rayburn Ramsey founded Ramsey Brothers Tool & Die in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to manufacture parts, tools, and dies for Douglas Aircraft Company.

In 1945, Claude Ramsey designed a front-mounted winch, the Model 101. This new winch was specifically designed for passenger cars and pickup trucks and drew its power from the crankshaft. The Ramsey Winch was perfect for pulling vehicles out of mud and snow and over the years it became the mainstay of the towing and recovery industry. The product was a success, and demand for Ramsey Winches was so high that in 1947 the Ramsey brothers renamed their company Ramsey Brothers Winch Company. In fact, due to the significant impact that Ramsey Winch had on the Towing and Recovery industry, in 1987 the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame inducted Claude Ramsey as the first member who was not actually a part of the Towing and Recovery industry.

The first Ramsey Winch was designed in 1945 by Claude Ramsey

Then in 1950, Claude Ramsey purchased Rayburn Ramsey’s interest in the company and renamed it Ramsey Winch Company, eventually incorporating the business in 1959. Ramsey Winch Company continued to flourish and in 1978, William (Bill) Ramsey succeeded his father and company founder, Claude, as sole owner of Ramsey Winch.

Through the years Ramsey Winch has maintained the high standards necessary to deliver a premium product. The company stays in tune to the needs of the market, resulting in innovation and new product introductions across consumer, commercial, and industrial applications such as the PowerMaster™ Series for the power and utility market or the Wildcat Series for the oil and gas production fields. Today, Ramsey Winch is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ramsey Industries and continues to manufacture winches and hoists in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
